CanSkate is the best learn-to-skate program. If you want to learn to skate for fun, to become a figure skater, or to improve your skating skills for hockey or ringette, try our new and improved CanSkate Program. Skate Canada professional coaches supported by skating assistant teach this 45-minute program, with instruction provided in group lessons. Skaters have fun at various stations while working on the skills needed for the different badge levels. CanSkate lessons include a group warm up and cool down using the full arena.

The CanSkate program teaches fundamental skating skills: forward and backward, stopping, turning, spinning and jumping. The program is broken into 7 stages / levels. Skaters learn and practice the fundamental skills, which become more challenging at each stage. Skaters receive badges upon the completion of each level.

Skater Level Description
Tiny Tot 3 and 4 years of age with no skating experience
CanSkate low stage Stage 1 to 7, 5 years of age and up with or without skating experience

Equipment: Helmets are mandatory for all skaters in Tiny Tot sessions and are recommended for beginner skaters in CanSkate. Skaters must provide their own skates, skating helmets and gloves. Rentals are not available.

New to Sungod Skating Club in Fall 2009 - The JUNIOR ACADEMY Program is intended as an introduction to competitive figure skating. The program is the next stage of development for skaters 9 yrs of age and younger with the desire to pursue test/competiive skating. Team coaching, jump technique, spins, off-ice, theatre on ice, artistic figures, games and prizes are all part of the Program. It combines a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere to learn the basic skills of figure skating at a young age.

The Junior Academy program is designed to be a bridge between the CanSkate program and the Skate Canada StarSkate program. Skaters may choose to complete all levels of the Program before transferring to the StarSkate Program or they may transfer part way. For further details please contact our Director of programs.

Skaters wishing to join Junior Academy Program must demonstrate competent skill level for their age, and must be accessed by a club coach. Skaters will also be talent-identified and selected from the CanSkate program.

Skaters are required to wear proper figure skating skate boots/blades and skating attire.

These programs are for skaters wanting to achieve a higher level of figure skating though some group lessons but mostly through private lessons. Lessons for this are booked through the club director of programs. Ice time and lessons (private or semi-private) are booked and paid for by the skater. Skaters who are coached privately progress more quickly due to the one-on-one coaching and advanced training. These programs allow skaters to begin competitive skating and progress through the StarSkate levels.
